Živa Remic won the 800 m title at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, United States. She crossed the line in 2:03.03, five hundredths of a second ahead of Ioulianna Roussou of Greece, who is two years older, with Shaikira King of Great Britain taking bronze. Živa is the first Slovenian woman to win a world junior title.
The win comes just three weeks after she became U18 European Champion in Rieti, closing an exceptional summer for the athlete of AD Olimpija Ljubljana, who turns 17 on 23 August. She described the final as a tactical race, which suited her speed, while her coach Gregor Grad credited the result to the work of the entire team behind her.
