The company SALUS, Ljubljana, d.d., was established 50 years ago, in 1969. Throughout the decades, we have built a solid and reputable group of companies, the Salus Group, with strong will, hard work and continuous development. We rely on tradition, knowledge and fast response to the changing market conditions.

The merger of the companies Medika Internacional and Carso Internacional into the company Carso Internacional

In 2019, the merger of Medika Internacional DOOEL with Carso Internacional DOOEL is carried out for conducting easier and more transparent business on the territory of North Macedonia. Both companies are in 100% ownership of the company SALUS, Ljubljana, d.d.

The acquisition of the company Sanolabor and expansion of retail activity

The acquisition of the company Sanolabor, d.d., is in line with the company’s development strategy that foresees expansion of activity both in the territory of Slovenia, as well as regionally in Southeast Europe. Manufacturers and suppliers are granted access to the retail market through the largest chain of Sanolabor specialised stores.

Finalised demerger of the company SALUS, Ljubljana, d.d.

The company SALUS, Ljubljana, d.d., successfully completes the finalisation of the demerger of wholesale activities with the establishment of a new company SALUS, Veletrgovina, d.o.o. that starts operations on 1 August 2013. The demerger is part of the long-term business strategy of the company SALUS, Ljubljana, d.d., with the purpose that all wholesale activities and the assets are transferred to the company SALUS, Veletrgovina, d.o.o.

The completion of a new business, warehouse and distribution centre and relocation to the new premises

The construction which Salus started in jubilee year 2009, is successfully completed.

With a new centre offering large spatial capacities and the state-of-the-art technological equipment (highly automated warehouse with complete IT support and a connection with a business information system), Salus sets the foundations for the upgrade of its business excellence, further improvement of the services provided and further development of the company.

In the jubilee year 2009, the company starts with the construction of a new business, warehousing and distribution centre on Litostrojska cesta in Ljubljana.

Expansion of operations requires additional storage premises that the company successfully acquires and thus has at its disposal 7,500 m2 of storage space.

In June, the company obtains the ISO 9001:2000 certificate for quality management system that becomes the foundation of organisation and operation of the company in the future.

The introduction of electronic ordering system is an important contribution to the fast and efficient adaptation of services to the expectations and needs of customers and the further increase of the company’s competitiveness.

Introduction of a new, integrated information system

The introduction of a new, integrated information system further upgrades business operation technology. In the fourth decade of operation the company employs almost 100 employees, has a 30% share of sales on the Slovenian medicinal products market and ranks among the top and most profitable companies in Slovenia.

Introduction of a new warehousing technology

An automated warehouse that starts operating in 1998 represents yet another achievement in a series of goals, which the company has been exceeding year by year.

SALR share becomes listed on the securities market, company launches its own foreign trade activities and investments in the expansion of the pharmacy sales network are made

The first month of the year is marked by the listing of the SALR share at the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (from 16.01.1992 onwards).

The first year of operation in the newly independent country the company succeeds in meeting its challenges. Company starts the import of medicine through the company’s own foreign trade activities and also begins to realize a long-term strategy of investing into an expansion of the sales network of pharmacies through public institutions and private concessionaries.

Salus becomes one of the first public limited companies in Slovenia

In the search for solutions for maintaining the performance from the past the company’s Management with full consent of all the employees decides to privatize the state-owned company and realises this in the beginning of 1990. The new public limited company becomes the property of all employees, numerous former associates, pensioners and business partners.

Relocation to a new and modern business facility

Due to the increase in turnover, there is a need to expand the company’s capacities as soon as possible. The idea of building a new, larger business facility on Mašera Spasić street is realised at the end of the year. With the relocation to the new and modern business facility, Salus fulfils the conditions for the realisation of the vision of further successful development.

Maintaining autonomy

The year is marked with political pressures to merge with another Slovenian pharmaceutical wholesaler. Through the support of the entire team, the Management manages to maintain the company’s independent position.

Beginning of operations in company’s own facility

Salus brings the entire activity under one roof in the newly purchased and renovated building on Kamniška street. At that time, the company is already enjoying the reputation of a reliable business partner among many domestic and foreign pharmaceutical product manufacturers and is an important supplier to Slovenian hospitals and pharmacies. During that time, the company has 85 employees.

Rapid growth in the early years of operation

In the first few years of operation, the Salus pharmaceutical wholesaler achieved rapid growth rate, mainly through trading imported products. Successful operations demand an expansion of personnel and premises.

The establishment of a new pharmaceutical wholesaler Salus

In cooperation with the Director of KRKA, Boris Andrijanič, Smiljan Vranjek, the head of commercial operations at Kemofarmacija, establishes a new pharmaceutical wholesaler. The company starts operations with the support of the company KRKA. At the end of the year, Salus is registered as an independent company and employs 13 workers.
